On Average How Many Car Sales Take Place In The UK?

Car sales are constantly taking place throughout the year, on average around 2,6 million vehicles are sold each year. Looking a new car registrations we have seen a dramatic increase in 2012 with 2,044,609 vehicles being purchased for that year alone.
Another interesting piece of information is that approximately £10 billion is spent each year on servicing and repairs in the UK alone.

2010 New Vehicles Purchases
In 2010 there were 2,030,,846 new vehicles sold. Ford took centre stage with their Fiesta and Focus taking first and third most popular vehicle for the year. In fact there were 103,013 Ford Fiesta new registrations and 77,804 Ford Focus purchases in 2010 alone. Second went to the Vauxhall Astra with 80,646 sales and the Corsa in fourth place with 77,398 vehicles purchased. Fifth place went to Volkswagen Golf with 58,116.
Already in 2010 the demand for smaller and cheaper to run vehicles was at an all time high.
2011 New Purchases
2011 saw a 4.4 percent decrease in new vehicle registrations with only 1,941,253 purchases taking place throughout the year.
Ford remained at the top with the Ford Fiesta and the Ford Focus taking first and second place respectively. There were 96,112 Ford Fiesta registrations and 81,832 Ford Focus purchases during the year. Third place went to the Vauxhall Corsa with 77,751 and fourth was the Volkswagen Golf with 63,368. The Vauxhall Astra followed in fifth place with 62.575 purchased in 2011.
2012 Vehicles Registrations
2012 saw a significant increase in the number of vehicles purchased in the UK. In July 2012 alone there was a 9.3 percent increase in new car registrations with 143,884 vehicles being sold that month. Again the Ford Fiesta took centre stage selling 7,533 vehicles in July 2012.
Ford managed to maintain that lead throughout 2012 selling 109,265 Ford Fiestas throughout the year and Ford Focus sales took third place with 83,115 vehicles sold. Second went to the Vauxhall Corsa selling 89,434 vehicles and fourth went to the Astra with 63,023 sales.

Manufacture on the Increase
At the beginning of this year two large vehicle manufacturers in the UK announced they would be hiring 1,800 workers between them for the production of this years vehicles. What is interesting is the majority of vehicles produced each year is in China, who produce twenty four percent of the total vehicles produced worldwide on an annual basis. UK only produces 2.2 percent of the worlds total.

When you look at it there are sixty million vehicles produced worldwide on an annual basis, so when it comes to carsales in the UK, we are definitely doing something right.

Is Being A Motor Trader A Secure Occupation?

After the recession we all experienced recently it's very difficult to determine if any position is secure, though being a motor trader can give you some sense of security.
We watched in horror as companies closed their doors, companies from car dealerships to local pubs and restaurants, book shops to convenience stores. But as things are starting to improve around the country, workshops, dealerships and even restoration companies are starting to hire again.

What Keeps the Industry Going?
Car dealerships were the hardest hit as people didn't spend the money on purchasing both new and used vehicles, the only dealerships that were doing well were those selling white vans, which were a cheaper alternative for companies over trucks.
As the economy has improved buyers are buying both new and used vehicles again, the businesses that managed to remain open during the financial crisis are back on track and hiring new staff.
Larger dealerships seemed to sail through the financial downfall as did the private mechanical workshops. If you think about it whether you have money or not, your car must be MOT'd each year and you will require certain repairs to be carried out, usually when you least expect it.
Constant Improvements
If you're worried about job security in the sector then you can start relaxing. This year alone we have seen a magnitude of jobs becoming available for all sectors of the industry, including two vehicle manufacturers that have offered over one thousand new jobs for the production of their new vehicles.
People are taking the time to repair their vehicles again, sending them for that desperate service which they were holding off for, which has had a large impact on the mechanical workshops who are enjoying a constant flow of work on a daily basis.
Brakes, tyres, exhausts, modifications and repairs are all on the increase as people start spending money on their cars again.
This has been very noticeable in the car sales industry with more people turning to purchase new vehicles where they get guarantees, free services and MOT's for a set period. Some dealerships are also offering roadside assistance for a set period, all selling points which customers are taking full advantage of.
In the used car industry sales are on the increase and car prices are constantly improving. It's a sign that as a motor trader your job will be secure for some time to come and with the constant improvement in the economy, we can only expect that companies will be hiring even more staff to manage the demand.
